I enjoy including the dancing app BodyGroove into my workout regimen. Misty, the host this morning, made a statement that struck a deep chord with me. I often mention this to the ladies I work with since I’ve experienced it myself in my job.

Nobody is able to dance for you. No one can exert the effort on your behalf. Nobody can help you get healthy and fit. There is no one who can make you more flexible. You are the only one who can keep your body young!

In actuality, that is very much like your career. You can’t have anyone do it for you. Recalling that and coming to that insight has altered my life’s trajectory in three notable instances.

I Felt Awful

The first time was when I was truly unhappy with the way my career was taking. I would eventually find myself on a job path that wasn’t right for me. I wasn’t making use of my strengths, and I didn’t enjoy it. Even worse, I was unable to see a path out. I finally understood that, in addition to boring myself and everyone around me, no one is going to come and solve this; no one can figure it out after I had been complaining about it for a very long time. Just me. That moment of accepting responsibility for a successful career shift changed everything. Focusing on “what do I need to do to fix this,” I looked for the solutions and assistance I required. The secret was to make it happen for me.

I Was Content But Not Making Any Progress

The second instance occurred during my time working for a corporation. I had a passion for what I was doing. I was enthusiastic about what I was doing, and I bounded into work every day. I was growing as a person and operating with strength, passion, and a sense of purpose. And like many women, I worked well above my pay grade to establish my worth. I gave my all because I believed that if I continued to show up and perform well, someone would notice and things would change. Naturally, no one did, no one solved the problem, and no one provided me with what I truly needed!

I came to the realization that I must do this for myself. I must bring it to pass. I therefore conducted study and sought assistance once more. After figuring out the solutions, I contacted my network, increased my visibility, and requested assistance in order to gain recognition. I succeeded, and everything was fantastic once more.

Too Scared To Jump In?

Actually, the third time was when I started my business. While on maternity leave, my friend Fiona and I had launched the company, but we weren’t really sure what the clear course of this new endeavor was. After some time, it became evident that our desires were genuinely different. I am very thankful to Fiona because she gave me the confidence and confidence to start my own company, but she did something else, and I am actually watching her do it, and I really enjoy seeing how it is going. I’ve had that “what am I going to do, how am I going to make this happen” moment. Once more, it was realizing that no one could do this for you. You have to provide for your family, run your business, and maintain your home. You must live your life, and no one will make it better for you. You must dig deep, take action, and accept responsibility, Sinead!

I then set out to find the answers. I sought assistance. After that, I conducted research. I also received assistance. And for myself, I made it happen! There were a ton of tools available to assist me, including podcasts, courses, other mentors and coaches, and of course, friends and family.

Everyday, I Assist Others In Achieving This

They eventually come to the realization that “this is not where I want to be.” Therefore, it may be that they’re not content, that they believe they could be working somewhere better, or that they know they have more to contribute. They might be more recognized and have a more fulfilling career. They’ve come to the conclusion that “I have to fix this for myself; nobody else is coming to do it for me.”

Most of us are eager to see what can be improved in our lives when we begin a new year full of new hopes and relief in starting again. We decide or resolve for the new year-at least, to lose that unwanted weight, to earn more money, or to improve relationships-with the optimistic belief that “this will finally be it.” The problem is that only 8% of people who set resolutions will actually do something with them.

Perhaps the best time to discuss WHY New Year’s resolutions don’t work is now.

WE ARE ASKING A BIT TOO MUCH OF US.

In our culture, everything is either all or nothing. Either we want to go all out and do everything flawlessly, or we don’t want to do everything. How many times have you put anything off until you have all the necessary knowledge and tools? You probably have a closet full of supplies that you purchased for a project but haven’t used yet.

That “all or nothing” mentality ignores the work you put in to get here, the length of time it took you to gain weight, accumulate significant debt, or keep drawing the wrong kind of person into your life.

By taking care of the symptom:

  • The fundamental issue persists even after I lose fifty pounds,
  • earn over $100,000,
  • meet the right person, and so on.

Now let’s take a closer look

It could appear like the ideal way to find Mr. or Ms. Right, lose weight, or increase your income. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with wishing for ANY of those items. A closer examination of those opening lines reveals that they are a mirror of your connection with your body, finances, and, in the end, with yourself.

How about expressing your desires differently?

  • I’m willing to eat healthier and exercise because I’d love to feel better overall and have more energy.
  • Most days, I’m willing to make healthier choices because my body works so much for me and deserves better care.
  • I will say “no” to requests for help because I value my personal time and attention and I want to avoid feeling overburdened and rushed.
  • Speaking my loved one’s love language on most days is something I will purposefully do because my connection deserves more attention.
  • I might as well learn how to be my own best friend since I’ll be with me until the day I die.

Can you see how this operates? What you want to alter has a specific purpose and is based on your lifestyle. That’s ultimately what we hope to achieve.

Throughout the procedure, be kind with yourself

Give yourself some grace instead of making things huge, intimidating, restricting, and unachievable so that it won’t be as hard to encourage yourself to get back on track when life does get in the way. There really is no “there,” and you don’t have to wait for a fixed amount of time to feel like you’ve failed if you don’t complete your task inside it.

Never forget that you are not the only one who can bring about change. Get yourself a support system of people you can trust to assist you in achieving that level of increased self-worth and self-awareness.

You will reach your desired “there” if you have a larger picture in mind and make a daily commitment to YOUR wellbeing.

Do you need some help getting started? Consider taking up some relaxation techniques. It’s much simpler to hear your heart when your body and mind both calm down. When you learn to hear that silent voice within you and follow its counsel, you’ll never make a mistake. It requires practice, just like anything.
