Everyone knows that mornings can be stressful. If you have kids, they can be especially chaotic. However, you can help make mornings fun and get you all out the door on time.

Here are some tips to get you started:

Morning Routine Resources:

  • Do as much as you can the night before.  This includes selecting outfits, preparing lunches, and laying out things for breakfast.
  • Set up a grab-and-go snack area, with items like individual containers of yogurt, string cheese packs, pieces of fruit, and trail mix packs.  These items can be used to complete lunches or round out a hurried breakfast.
  • Help your kids get their backpacks loaded and by the door so nobody is scrambling to find homework or permission slips in the morning.
  • Pack your own bag for work the night before, with water bottle, laptop, workout clothes, and whatever else you might need.
  • Have established places where you keep your keys and your phone so they are easily located in the morning.  If you frequently misplace either item, put a tracker on it.
  •  Establish a morning routine and stick to it.  Resist the temptation to multi-task.  Give your full attention to what you are doing, and encourage family members to do the same.
  • Make the night-time forecast check part of the evening routine, so your kids begin thinking ahead, too.  Put items you’ll need, such as umbrellas by the door.
  • Plan your outfit, and your child’s outfit the night before.  Some people plan for the entire work week ahead of time.  This might be worth a try for less stressful mornings.

Now that you have some ideas for getting ready in the mornings, make it a game!

Get energized and let your kids help so that everyone is up and moving and getting things done. It’s going to be a great day!
